'Cell Structures' is a 3D artwork inspired by the experience of using microscopes in the science labs at the University of Bolton, where I was able to study and photograph cell structures in a variety of plant and animal tissue.
To assemble the artwork I printed my cell photographs onto transparent acetate sheets, cut out sections and built them up in layers inside a deep box frame. I also incorporated a magnifying lens into the centre
'Microscopic' (below) takes this concept one stage further by attempting to replicate the microscope itself. Through a lens embedded in a circular structure, multiple layers of printed acetate can be seen, illuminated by LED lights around the inner rim. Internal mirrors and additional lenses duplicate and distort the images as they are observed from different angles.
